Abstract:
In the past, African states have been particularly generous to asylum-seekers. Today they follow the example of their more industrialized, less-hospitable counterparts in the West. Sanjugta Vas Dev examines the reasons behind the decline of traditional African hospitality within the framework of the UNHCR-promoted durable solutions. She argues that such solutions are no longer adequate to meet the growing asylum crisis in Africa. Development (2003) 46, 113–118. doi:10.1177/10116370030463018
