Violence, Poverty and Survival in Darfur, Sudan
Judith A Hermanson
Development, 2007, vol. 50, issue 2, 154-159
Abstract:
In Darfur, CHF International is working to help alleviate the victim mindset and resulting dependency when traumatized people are displaced to refugee camps. Judith A. Hermanson suggests that despite many challenges, non-governmental organizations like CHF have found ways to assist those seen and treated as ‘victims’ to become ‘survivors’, – to learn new skills, to generate income, to contribute to the local economy and to look more hopefully to the future.
