Education, Peace and Freire: A dialogue

Development, 2010, vol. 53, issue 4, 498-503
Abstract:
Kevin Kester and Ashley Booth in a ‘spoken essay’ explore the dialectic of democracy and citizenship education in the work of Paulo Freire (1921–1997), and highlight the implications of participatory pedagogy/democracy in adult education. They embed the discussion within discourse on Freire and popular/peace education, particularly where this education concerns a central objective of participatory democracy: fostering responsible, participatory, and justice oriented citizens. The work was composed in written and spoken dialogue with each other and ends with an epitaph by Freire, on Freire, for Freire.
