Women's Labour Rights, Gender Equality and Economic Justice in Latin America and the Caribbean

Abstract: Conceptualizing the economy in much broader and more holistic terms than orthodox economic theory, feminist economy has exposed the patriarchal and unsustainable nature of the current economic system. Sandra Ramos argues that in order to advance gender equality, women's human rights and economic justice, the concept of work must be expanded. She states that both paid and unpaid labour must be valued so that women's full contributions to the economy are counted eliminating the artificial divide between what is consider productive and reproductive work.
