The Right to Adequate Nutrition

Olivier De Schutter

Development, 2014, vol. 57, issue 2, 147-154

Abstract: Four important conceptual shifts have occurred in our understanding of under- and malnutrition in recent years. Together, they have led to the emergence of the concept of ‘food and nutrition security’ and to a renewed emphasis not on calorie intake alone, but also on the adequacy of diets and care. Human rights provide a useful framework for ensuring food and nutrition security. However, only through more democracy in the food systems can change happen.
