Securing the Commons: Turning land asset inequalities and persistent gender inequalities into new ways of collaboration

Abstract: Investor interests in lands and commodities across several African countries are an added threat to the already precarious claims that rural women have to productive land. The women’s movement has worked diligently to secure women’s rights to inherit and own land, but this legal response to individual rights has its limitations. Mobilizing men and women to work together to secure the commons will be key to a vibrant rural economy over the long term.
