Abstract:
Abstract The developments taking place under the framework of the Ocean Economy represent the latest wave of ocean grabbing in South Africa, with dire implications for small-scale fishing communities. This article provides an overview of the governance systems in the ocean space in South Africa. It examines the challenges confronting small-scale fishers under Ocean Economy policies and presents strategies implemented by these communities to counteract the displacement caused by the actions of the state and other actors.
