Abstract: Provides a guide to the different statistical sources covering both business/household surveys and administrative sources.This article provides a guide to the different sources of statistics on trade union membership, strikes and lockouts inthe UK, covering business and household surveys as well as administrative sources. The article sets out some of the historyand the current details of each source and also describes the legislative backdrop against which the statistics are collectedand published. The author presented the paper at the Joint UNECE/ILO/Eurostat seminar on quality of work that tookplace in Geneva in April 2007.
