Abstract:
How similar are ONS’s annual and monthly business inquiries?This article supports the Office forNational Statistics’ monthly and annualsurveys reconciliation programme. Itpresents an analysis of the coherenceof business survey returns between theMonthly Inquiry into the Distributionand Service Sector (MIDSS) and MonthlyProduction Inquiry (MPI) comparedwith the Annual Business Inquiry. Atwo-stage methodology is employed:fi rstly, analysing the aggregate data andsecondly, using microdata sets matchingindividual business responses from themonthly and annual surveys. This analysisis reported in terms of levels and growthrates for both an unadjusted and anadjusted MPI/MIDSS series.
