Abstract:
SUMMARYThis article presents initial analysis from the 2009 UK Innovation Survey (UK IS 2009). Beginning with key statistics on overall innovation activity the article moves on to examine in which markets and regions innovative UK businesses are operating; discuss collaborations and sources of information, barriers to innovation and the uptake of intellectual property by firms to protect the value of innovations. A broader range of innovations in business practices and organisational structures, such as the introduction of new management techniques is then considered. The article includes a few highlights from analysis of the panel (overlap) between the 2009 survey and its predecessors from 2007 and 2005 and concludes with a comparison of the last four surveys from 2009, 2007, 2005 and 2001.
