Abstract: The security incident cycle of ports consists of four phases: prevention, detection, response and recovery. There have been significant improvements in securing (prevention and detection) ports since the events of September 11, 2001, but little investigation of the response to and recover from a security incident once it has occurred. This paper provides a study of the security incident cycle of a port by investigating how ports and governments have addressed prevention and detection of and response to and recovery from port security incidents.
