Abstract: Abstract This study presents an empirical test and a conceptual account of the role of within-border foreign publics (WBFPs) as important communicative influencers, explicating how shared experiences shape the ideas and opinions of a foreign country. The study focuses on two communicative concepts, megaphoning and echoing, and finds they explicate network impacts of sociological public diplomacy. The information megaphoned by the WBFP (e.g., international students) is echoed in their relational networks back home. The findings provide evidence that the megaphoning behaviors of WBFPs are significantly related to the directionality and magnitude of echoing among their social networks in their home countries.
