Abstract:
The aim of this contribution is to highlight some central aspects of Antonio Scialoja’s economic thought. These are: his Benthamian approach to public action; his justification of below-the-line public expenditure as a tool to foster national economic development through infrastructure building; the strong gradualism he adopted in applying economic theories to policy. This last aspect is crucial as a bridge between Scialoja’s activity as an economist and Scialoja’s activity as a politician
