Abstract: The study aims at analyzing the institutional dimensions of some parts of the Emilio Sereni’s works. Attention is mainly paid to two steps: the firsts is the emerging process of the national capitalist market and the second is the history of the agrarian landscape. The interpretative scheme proposed emphasizes the relationship between the change in the division of labour and the social transformation processes. It is argued that this relationship contributes to identify the Gramscian foundation of Sereni’s thought
