Abstract:
The paper analyzes the debate, which occurred in the first two decades after the unification on economic journals published in Milan, between the proponents of the traditional system based on the primacy of agriculture and the related transformation activities and how many instead assumed an attitude of openness to the opportunities offered by industrial progress. The aim is to seize the guidance issued by publicists, ‘economists’, technicians and representatives of the business community on key development issues, with specific attention to the emergence of a more open attitude to take the path traced by the industrialized nations.
