Abstract: Reading Giuseppe Toniolo means reading a page of Italian history and national identity post 1861 unification. His views still live in some passages of the Republican Constitution and in the Social Doctrine of the Catholic Church. With an institutionalistic framework his economic thought has its roots in the aristotelian-thomistic tradition.
