Abstract: The paper highlights the link between Massimo Augello’s work on the Italian economists of the 19th century and the research projects which, during the last three decades, have studied the phenomena of professionalisation, institutionalisation and dissemination of economics in Italy, as well as their comparison with the similar phenomena occurred in other European and extra-European countries. The subject of translations of economic texts is then introduced as a proof of the various uses that can be made of this work to study important aspects of the history of political economy in Italy
