Abstract:
This paper deals with Federico Caffè’s contribution to the formation of economic policy as an autonomous discipline and raises problems of both methodology and history of economic thought. Economic policy, which has been under attack after the 1960s by the monetarists and the economists who introduced rational expectations, has been rehabilitated recently with the contribution of some scholars trained in the tradition of Caffè. In relation to this, some of the subliminal messages that he was used to insert in his teaching and writings have been re-discovered
