Abstract: The paper illustrates a procedure for estimating price and income elasticities on the demand for food from a single, cross-sectional data set. A linear expenditure system for food is derived and estimated using Philippine data from the 1965 Family Income and Expenditures survey. The parameter estimates reported here do not appear out of line with other estimates.
