The Study of Mix-form Markets in the Context of Economic Theories of Nonprofit Organizations

Ekonomika a Management, 2015, vol. 2015, issue 3
Abstract:
The objective of the article is to find an answer to questions whether the nonprofit organizations are characterized by a special nature and whether it is possible to approve it throughout comparison of behaviour of different service producers on mix-form markets. First, the economic theories of nonprofit organizations, namely government/market failure theory and trust theory, and resulting characteristics of non-profit organizations (trustworthiness, heterogeneity and value oriented) are introduced. Next, using literature search, empirical results of comparison of behaviour of different service producers are presented on several industries, e.g. hospitals, nursing homes and day centres. By description of mix-form markets and production behaviour of organizations the empirical results are explained. In literature, special characteristics are often given to nonprofit organizations and forprofit firms as theirs extreme forms. This results to incorrect and misleading results about their behaviour. The production behaviour depends on organizational mission, environment and chosen tactic.
