Abstract: The paper aims to put the civil society in the context of political philosophy and to explain it from a pluralistic perspective. The first part discusses the classical concept of the civil society. The second part examines the civil society during and after the era of Communism. The third part analyses the dispute between corporativism and pluralism. The fourth part distinguishes between political power and influence. The fifth part highlights the roles of political parties. The sixth part points out the suspicious nature of universal moral claims.
