Businesses in bankruptcy as one of the manifestations of the economic crisis: an analysis of regional disparities in the Czech Republic

Abstract: Paper tries to empirically capture one of the important manifestations of the economic crisis in the Czech Republic, which is the increase in the number of insolvency proceedings. The evaluation concerns the nation-wide development of insolvencies and bankruptcies with an emphasis on ?crisis? period 2008 ? 2010. The analysis is centred especially on interregional and interdistrict disparities with regard to the number of economic entities which fell into bankruptcy during the period of September 2008 ? December 2009. The monitored and evaluated indicators are the time evolution of the numbers, intensity and structure of economic entities specifi ed by the Industrial Classification of Economic Activities, legal status and numbers of their employees. Furthermore, the contribution deals with the relationship between the intensity of bankruptcies of economic entities and the factors that affects regional differences of this indicator.
