Abstract:
This paper deals with euroregions in the Czech Republic. It defined the term euroregion, describes the evolution of euroregions in time, analyzes their legal status incl. the aim to set up a common legal entity. Further the membership in euroregions is analyzed and the development tendencies in memberships are generalized. Euroregions are compared and categorized according to their size from the perspective of their area, population or number of member municipalities (a very important indicator). Furthermore their organizational structure is analyzed and a general model is drawn. Among other researched characteristics of euroregions belongs their area of focus in terms of the focus of their cross-border expert working groups. The sources of financing are described and categorized. In the conclusion with the use of the analyzed characteristics a detailed definition of euroregions in the Czech Republic is set up.
