Abstract:
Energy security is one of the most debated issues in Europe. Despite the global crisis put down the production, the energy consumption has been growing up. European countries have not enough resources to meet their own demand. Due to the lack of energy resources the security of supply becomes more political rather than economic issue. The long-term partner in many European countries in this area is Russia. The cooperation started already in late 1950s with the building of productpipelines. More intensive dialogue, however, started only in the early 1990s. During this period certain successes were attained but at the same time there were some contradictions. The cooperation in the pipelines construction which should prevent the return of the gas crisis 2009, is currently in progress as well as negotiations on the participation of Russian companies in the nuclear projects of the EU. Though controversial points still remain, the progress in the energy dialogue is obvious.
