Adam Smith et la reconstruction de l'Empire colonial français au lendemain de l'épisode révolutionnaire

Abstract: [fre] Si l'empire colonial français a été dramatiquement affaibli par l'épisode révolutionnaire et les guerres de l'Empire, dans l'esprit des milieux économiques, le retour de la monarchie doit s'accompagner d'une restauration de la richesse coloniale. En dépit d'énormes difficultés et grâce à une protection très forte, les colonies des petites Antilles, spécialisées désormais sur le sucre parviennent à relancer une production coloniale qui reste coûteuse en regard des prix internationaux, la cherté du sucre français acheté aux colonies, fait éclater le consensus qui s'était formé sur le bien fondé d'un empire colonial et fait progresser un courant libéral qui dans la capital retrouve les leçons d'Adam Smith. [eng] The colonial empire has been weakened by the Revolution and the awrs of the imperial period. In the mind of the merchants but also among the manufacturers it obvious that it is necessary to rebuilt an empire at the time of the restauration of monarchy. In spite of a lot of difficulties and thanks to a large protection of trade, the colonial empire reduced to the small Antillas, is able to increase the production of sugar which stays the meantime expensive in comparison with the international prices. The high cost of french sugar, breaks the agreement which had been built on the question of colonial empire and strengthen the liberal movement especialy in Paris where the ideas of Smith has been rediscovered.
