Abstract: [eng] Married Mothers ’ Decisions to Work and Use Child Care Services . The aim of this article is to analyse in tandem the choice of mothers with young children to work and their decision to use child care services , the focus being on the impact of the cost of care . First , a multinomial logit model is used to contrast the following three situations : (1 ) non-work , (2 ) work and intra-household or unpaid child care , (3 ) work and paid child care . The distinction between part-time and full-time work is then introduced . The data are taken from a French local survey of couples with preschool children . The study shows that the cost of care has a negative effect on the probability that mothers will work , whether full-time or part-time , and use paid care . Key-words : female labour market participation , part-time work , child care , hourly cost of child care [fre] L ’ objet de cet article est d ’ analyser conjointement le choix d ’ activité des mères de jeunes enfants et la décision de recourir aux services de garde , l ’ accent étant mis sur le rôle du coût de la garde . Un premier modèle Logit polytomique est utilisé pour opposer les trois situations suivantes : (1 ) inactivité , (2 ) emploi et garde intra-ménage ou non rémunérée , (3 ) emploi et garde rémunérée . Puis la distinction entre temps partiel et temps complet est introduite . Les données proviennent d ’ une enquête auprès d ’ un échantillon de couples meurthe-et-mosellans avec enfant (s ) non scolarisé (s ). D ’ après les résultats des estimations , le coût de la garde a un impact négatif sur la probabilité pour les mères de travailler , à temps complet ou non , et de recourir à une garde rémunérée .
