Abstract: [eng] To respond - The National Institute of Statistics (INSEE), an institution which was created to provide the nation with the statistical information that is necessary for a variety of uses, attempts to provide its public with appropriate services. What has the Institute done to respond to the diverse needs of users? How is it possible to better in the future the services offered? Looking back over the past ten years, one must place particular emphasis on two new developments : the discussion about statistical programs was systematically opened to social partners and to experts; the diffusion of statistical results by publications and other means was reorganized and extended. Future progress will depend on conceptual analysis of the information needs, an analysis in which the academic community must take part. It is already apparent that new types of questions are addressed to statisticians who will have to give the appropriate answers. Lastly, the climate of confidence that must be established between the Institute and its public is of great importance for the future. Que hizo el Instituto para acertar, al menos parcialmente dentro de un proyecto tan ambicioso? ¿Como podría progresar en el futuro? Durante los ultimos diez anos, se implementó sobre todo la concertation sístematica de programas estadisticas y se organize la difusión de resultados. En el porvenir, los progresos dependrán de la reflexión conceptual a la cual participarán la Universidad y los centras de investigación, de la atención para comprender las nuevas preguntas dirigidas a los estadistas y por fin del clima reciproco de confianza que se establecerá entre el Instituto y el público. [fre] Créé pour fournir à la collectivité nationale l'information statistique qui lui est nécessaire, l'INSEE veut répondre à la demande des utilisateurs les plus divers. Qu'a fait l'Institut en vue de réussir, au moins partiellement, dans un projet aussi ambitieux? Comment peut-il réaliser des progrès à l'avenir? Au cours des dix dernières années furent notamment mis en place une concertation systématique sur les programmes statistiques et tout un dispositif pour la diffusion des résultats. Les progrès futurs dépendront de la réflexion conceptuelle à laquelle participeront l'Université et les centres de recherche, de l'application à comprendre les questions nouvelles qui seront adressées aux statisticiens, enfin du climat de confiance mutuelle qui s'établira entre l'Institut et le public.
