Abstract:
[eng] Summary The study of the rise and decline, or « demography » of businesses sketched here has led to certain significant results. Firstly, the revelation of intimate links existing between two pairs of elements : that of the creation of businesses related to investments, and that of bankruptcies related to prices. Secondly, this « demography » of businesses suggests that, among the great chronological turning-points in the national economy, we might adopt the end of the 1880s as marking the end of the Great Depression and the outset of the economic revival, rather than either 1896 or 1905. Finally, statistical analysis allows us to define, within the country as a whole, the lack of synchronisation, as well as the interaction between the particular behaviour or the capital and its dominance, and the varying degrees of development in the provinces.
