L'État et les télécommunications internationales au début du XXe siècle: un monopole stérile

Après avoir constaté la suprématie des cables britanniques dans le domaine des télécommunications internationales depuis le début du XIXème siècle, l'auteur étudie l'action de l'administration française dans ce secteur stratégique bouleversé par une nouvelle technologie, la radio. En fait cette action ne fut pas univoque. L'armée, la marine, les PTT, le ministère des Colonies travaillèrent chacun pour leurs intérêts particuliers. Au début de la première guerre mondiale, la France ne disposait pas du réseau de télégraphe international nécessaire à son Empire, à sa diplomatie et à son développement économique. L'industrie radioélectrique française, malgré le haut niveau de sa technologie, avait été gênée dans son développement par le monopole. [eng] A bstract. Strating with the situation of the international communications since the middle of the 19th century - caracterized by the british cables supremacy - the author examines the action of the french administration at the beginning of the 20 th century in this strategic field transformed by a new technology, the radio. In fact the action of the french administration was not unify. The army, the navy, the Post and Telegraph administration and the colonies shown concern about their own interest. At the beginnings of the first world war France did not have the telegraphic international network necessary for its Empire, its diplomacy and its economic development. The french radio industry, despite the high level of its technology, was embarrassed by the monopoly to develop its action.
