Abstract: [eng] A bstract. Currently fully committed as they are, to take on all comers in international competition. French civil engineering contractors are evincing, once more, the thrust they had sustained up to the end of the 1950s. Then as now, such innovation-driven thrust represents, as a whole, an answer for private enterprise, to the financial, legal and technological constraints to be met on the home market, owing to the requirements of the ever-dominant public sector. Engagées à fond dans la compétition internationale, les entrepreneurs français de travaux publics retrouvent aujourd'hui le dynamisme dont ils ont fait preuve jusqu'à la fin des années 1950. Comme autrefois, ce dynamisme innovateur constitue en grande partie une riposte de l'entreprise privée aux contraintes financières, juridiques et techniques imposées en métropole par une demande publique toujours prépondérante.
