Abstract: [fre] Résumé À Chartres, au XVIIIème siècle, l'administration municipale est dominée par les officiers royaux et par les marchands, qui en excluent progressivement les représentants du Chapitre cathédral. Le champ des responsabilités du Corps de ville est vaste : fiscalité, police municipale, logement des soldats, fourniture de miliciens, voirie et urbanisme, eau, éclairage public, lutte contre les incendies, surveillance des marchés, fixation du prix du pain, enseignement, assistance aux pauvres, ... Ils pratiquent une politique prudente et raisonnable d'entretien du patrimoine, sans négliger pour autant d'utiles opérations d'urbanisme. Le budget reste remarquablement équilibré, malgré les exigences financières de la monarchie, principales responsables de la hausse de l'endettement de la ville. Bonne gestionnaire du quotidien, la municipalité se montre cependant incapable d'empêcher le declin économique de la ville. [eng] A bstract During the 18th century, the local administration of Chartres was dominated by royal officers and merchants who progressively excluded the representatives of the cathedral Chapter. The responsabilities covered by town officials was very wide : taxation, local police, housing for soldiers, supplies for the militia, highway maintenance and town planning, water, public lighting, fire-fighting, supervision of markets, fixing the price of bread, education, assistance to the poor,... They practiced a careful and sensible policy of the patrimony maintenance without, however, neglecting useful projects of town planning. The budget remained remarkably balanced, despite the financial demands of the monarchy which were the main cause of the increase in town debt. Despite a good management of everyday life, the local authorities were unable to prevent the economic decline of the town.
