Abstract:
[eng] Abstract : France's leading sea trading port by the close of the 16th century, Rouen was at the same time a prime manufacturing centre - for cloth and the clothing industry, notably. This article provides both a typology and a topology, with a break-down of economic activities according to the types and sites of activity, in order to ascertain the respective weights of factors involved in the siting of manufacturing ventures. The trends over time, identified in this manner, point to the intervention, in the sphere of production, of a trade-oriented city : different levels are thus brought out, in the forms of dominance over, as well as of direction
