Les découvreurs de la Moscovie: l'appréhension des observateurs occidentaux face à la montée de Moscou

Abstract: [fre] Résumé : Jusqu'au début du XVIe siècle, l'idée de la «Russie» paraissait positive ; les Occidentaux y voyaient une aire commerciale à exploiter. Les Allemands, inquiétés par le proche voisinage avec la Russie, accusèrent pourtant la puissance grandissante de Moscou. Ainsi furent organisés les premiers écrits contre la Russie ; par le biais de chroniqueurs allemands commença la longue liste des pamphlets contre les Slaves de l'Est Ces écrivains cherchèrent à rompre l'entente relative entre les grandes nations occidentales et Moscou en excluant celle-ci du continent européen. L'attitude des témoins germaniques contraste avec les préoccupations plus théologiques des Italiens ou économiques des Anglais, fort complaisants dans leur ensemble. Honnie et convoitée, la Moscovie ne laissait plus indifférent ; les observateurs savaient désormais que les affaires internationales ne se régleraient plus sans la Russie. [eng] Abstract : The image of Russia seemed positive untill the beginning of the XVIth century. Occidental peoples were interested by the commercial exchanges with this rich country. The Germans, frightened of the geographical nearness to Moscovia, accused its military power ; German choniclers wrote the first pamphlets against their neighbour ; they initiated the long list of texts against russian people and sovereigns. They tried to break the good contacts between the Occidental nations and the Slavian country ; they exclue it from the European continental system. The Italien or English travellers, generally very favourable to the czars, continue notherefore to maintain their intense commercial contacts to Russia. Appreciated, abhored, Russia always concerned the observers ; they new that no international problem could be resolved without counting on this great nation.
