Abstract: [eng] Abstract Jean-Baptiste Mollerat (1772-1855), from Burgundy, born in a family of ironmasters, illustrates the activity of a learned entrepreneur in the birth of the chemical industry at the beginning of the XlXth century. Originally, his research on the distillation of wood was mostly conceived to find a solution to the ever-increasing price of this fuel for the metalurgical industry. But the main success of this process was related to the exploitation of other products of distillation, indispensable to the textile industry in particular. The construction of a factory at Pouilly-sur-Saône in 1809 met this objective. In the creation of this business, what was the importance of personnal innovation compared to the influence of the family ? What was the extent of his strategy within the national market and the weight of regional constraints ? [fre] Résumé Le bourguignon Jean-Baptiste Mollerat (1772-1855), né dans une famille de maîtres de forges, illustre l'activité d'un entrepreneur savant dans la naissance de l'industrie chimique au début du XIXe siècle. Ses recherches sur la distillation du bois sont en particulier conçues à l'origine pour remédier au coût croissant de ce combustible dans la métallurgie. Mais les plus grands succès de son procédé proviennent plutôt de l'exploitation d'autres produits de la distillation, indispensables notamment au secteur textile. La construction d'une usine à Pouilly-sur- Saône en 1809 répond à cet objectif. Quelles sont, dans cette création, la portée de l'innovation personnelle et la part du réseau familial, l'ampleur de la stratégie nationale et le poids des contraintes régionales ?
