Abstract: [eng] Abstract Contrary to the habitual interpretation, Nicolas Poussin was not wrong when he painted the two mothers of this picture. The mother who is seen as the « bad » mother is the « good » mother, but furious, carried away by a wel-known passion, often described in the XVIIth century, the anger. Poussin has represented the « good » mother at the last moment of a licit but dangerous anger just before she renounces her son to save his life. [fre] Résumé Contrairement à l'interprétation habituelle, Nicolas Poussin ne s'est pas trompé quand il peignit les deux mères de ce tableau. La mère qui est vue comme la « mauvaise mère » est en réalité la « bonne mère », mais furieuse, emportée par cette passion bien connue et souvent décrite au XVIIe siècle, la colère. Poussin a représenté la « bonne mère » à l'ultime moment d'une légitime mais dangereuse colère, juste avant qu'elle ne renonce à son fils pour lui sauver la vie.
