La pollution en Val Lagarina (1928-1938): une nouvelle voie pour l'histoire de l'environnement?

Abstract: [fre] Résumé Pendant la période 1928-1938, la Montecatini commence la production d'aluminium par un nouvel établissement dans la plaine de la Val Lagarina, près de Trente. Après peu, il passe une très grave pollution par les émissions de fluorine et la population demande des indemnisations et la suspension de la production. Le refus des autorités et de la direction de l'établissement provoquent deux révoltes. La principale question historique qui surgit c'est donc si il existe une conscience populaire de l'environnement. En outre, à propos de la méthode historique adoptée, on croit que seule l'interdisciplinarité peut donner des bonnes chances d'interpréter la complexité des problèmes de l'environnement et de sa dynamique. [eng] Abstract During the years 1928-1938, the Montecatini group starts the aluminium production through the new plant in the Val Lagarina, a plain near Trento. In a short while emissions of Fluorine cause a strong pollution and the inhabitants of the area ask for compensations and to suspend all production. The deny of the local authorities and of the management of the plant are the main reasons for two revolts. The main historical problem is therefore if it exists an environmental consciousness, widespread also in backward and popular sectors of society. Besides, the idea about the historical method to be adopted is to give way to a strong interdis- ciplinarity, in order to manage at best the complexity of the topics arising from the long-term environmental dynamics.
