Abstract: [eng] Abstract This review paper tackles the question of the weak and strong points in French maritime historiography. The validity of the concept of « maritime history » is discussed. Some comments are made upon the prospects of its development. [fre] Résumé La présente note critique aborde la question des avancées et des zones d'ombre de la recherche française en matière d'histoire maritime. La valeur de ce concept d'histoire maritime est discutée. Quelques remarques sont faites à propos de ses perspectives d'avenir.
