Voltaire strove to make it so, epitomizing the philosopher as a conqueror aspiring to a kind of universal monarchy and considering glory as a sign of charitable greatness. [fre] Résumé Peut-on humaniser la gloire, la rendre « sociable » ? Voltaire a voulu y parvenir en faisant du philosophe un conquérant aspirant à une forme de monarchie universelle, et de la gloire une manifestation de grandeur bienfaisante.
