Abstract: [fre] Résumé Ce qu'on appelle couramment Fultramontanisme se nourrit au XIXe siècle d'une redécouverte de la romanité catholique, qui se traduit par un attachement à une ville, symbole universaliste, à la personne du pape, à un pouvoir central dans l'Église, et conduit à une romanisation du catholicisme. La littérature française est un bon observatoire de la réflexion menée au cours du siècle sur la romanité, de Chateaubriand à Stendhal puis des Goncourt à Maurras. [eng] Abstract During the nineteenth century, what we usually call ultramontanism was linked with a rediscovery of the catholic romanity, which had a symbiotic relationship with a town, Rome, a symbol ofuni- versalism, and with the person of the Pope. It stressed the need of a centralized power in the Church and led to a romanisation of the Catholicism. The French literature is a good spot to observe these thoughts about romanity from Chateaubriand to Stendhal and from the Goncourts to Maurras.
