Abstract: [eng] Abstract The career of Jacques Offenbach (1819-1880) after his death is marked by the apparition of«of- fenbachian mythologies», and the author of this article intends to study how they were made up and then evolved. From 1887 onwards, when his wife died, a distorted image was given of Offenbach, especially by the music-hall which, around 1900, tended to make him the master of «French-cancan», while The Tales of Hoffmann were staged after several différents versions. In the inter-war period, Germany appropriated the musician, while his repertoire was often reduced to the ballet composed by Manuel Rosenthal, Gaîté parisienne. More recently, there appeared a wish to go back to the original works ; yet it is too often thwarted by the habit of rewriting the librettos and reor- chestrating the scores. [fre] Résumé La carrière posthume de Jacques Offenbach (1819-1880) est caractérisée par la création de «mythologies offenbachiennes» dont cet article entend repérer l'apparition et étudier l'évolution. A partir de 1887, année de la mort de l'épouse du compositeur, Offenbach fait l'objet de diverses récupérations, en particulier par le music-hall qui, autour de 1900, tend à faire de lui le maître du «French-cancan» tandis que Les Contes d'Hoffmann donnent lieu à de nombreuses versions. Dans rentre-deux-guerres, l'Allemagne se réapproprie le musicien. Son répertoire, parallèlement, est volontiers réduit au ballet composé par Manuel Rosenthal, Gaîté parisienne. L'époque plus contemporaine est il est vrai marquée par une volonté de retour aux œuvres originales, certes encore trop souvent entravée par la pratique de la réécriture des livrets et de la réorchestration des partitions.
