Abstract: [fre] Résumé Jusqu'à la fin du VXVIIIe siècle, il n'existe pas d'hôpitaux spécialisés dans le soin des enfants malades, et ceux-ci sont répartis dans les établissements pour adultes. Pourtant, dès la seconde moitié du XVIIIe siècle, médecins et administrateurs ont pris conscience des dangers de cette promiscuité, et envisagé la création d'hôpitaux pour enfants. C'est en 1802, à Paris, que l'Hôpital des Enfants Malades ouvre ses portes. Le projet est novateur, mais la mortalité considérable qui y règne dès l'ouverture conduit très vite à remettre en cause la structure elle-même. Il faudra attendre la fin du XIXe siècle pour que les hôpitaux spécialisés et médicalisés voient enfin le jour. [eng] Abstract Hospitals specialised for the sick children appeared at the beginning of the nineteenth century. Before, children were mixed with the adults. However, in the middle of the eighteenth century, practitioners and administrators, conscious of the dangers of such a fact, thought to establish hospitals specialised for the children. In 1802, in Paris, the Hôpital des Enfants Malades was opened. The idea was really modern, but the very high mortality challenged the existence of the structure. It is only at the end oh the nineteenth century that numerous hospitals devoted to children were widely opened.
