Marc Olivier Baruch

Histoire, économie & société, 2004, vol. 23, issue 2, 235-246

Abstract: [eng] As américain scholars have proposed it some twenty years ago, it is high time to «bring the State back in» contemporary political and social history. The statement seems especially valid during war-time. The State, both as a subject and an agent of war, has to cope with issues of a magnitude never reached before. We shall mainly stress here three functions that were deeply changed by WWI and WWII: the rule law, the territorial question and the administrative organization.
