L'itinéraire professionnel et l'univers intellectuel des bureaucrates éclairés

Abstract: [fre] Durant leurs règnes respectifs, l'impératrice Marie-Thérèse et surtout son fils Joseph II souhaitent disposer d'une administration différente dans la Bohême. Ils veulent forger un homme nouveau, le fonctionnaire capable de servir l'État avec efficacité, compétence, vertu. L'article expose les normes du parfait bureaucrate définies par des souverains «éclairés», les transformations de la formation intellectuelle et théorique des nouveaux administrateurs, leurs pratiques professionnelles et leurs itinéraires. Après avoir évalué les rapports entre d'une part le déroulement des carrières des fonctionnaires, d'autre part leur formation initiale ou acquise au cours de leur vie, et leurs origines sociales, l'article traite des processus d'identification sociale de ces nouveaux venus. La fréquentation des théâtres et des salles de concert, les rencontres dans des cercles masculins, l'attrait de la Franc-maçonnerie sont autant de gestes élus par cette catégorie professionnelle émergente en quête de marqueurs démonstratifs et de reconnaissance sociale. [eng] During their respective reigns, the impératrice Marie-Thérèse and especially its son Joseph II wish to have a different administration in Bohemia. They want to forge a new man, the civil servant able to serve the State with effectiveness, competence, virtue. The article gives the standards of perfect bureaucrate defined by "enlightened" sovereigns, the transformations of the intellectual and theoretical training of the new administrators, their professional practices and their routes. After having evaluated the relationship between on the one hand the career profile of the civils servant, on the other hand their formation initial or acquired during their life, and their social origins, the article treats processes of social identification of these new come. The fréquentation of the theatres and the concert halls, the meetings in "male circles", the attraction of Freemasonry are as many gestures elected by this emergent professional category in search of conclusive markers and social recognition.
