Abstract: [fre] Résumé . Le président au parlement de Bretagne Christophe-Paul de Robien (1698-1756) incarne par excellence la réussite nobiliaire en France au XVIIIe siècle. Toutefois, celui qui fut un des plus grands collectionneurs français de son temps et un érudit dynamique vit, à plusieurs reprises, ses projets échouer, notamment lorsqu'il voulut doter Rennes d'une académie. L'inventaire des échecs de Robien permet non seulement de corriger l'image attachée à ce personnage, mais conduit aussi à revenir sur le profil culturel de Rennes. À travers les échecs de Robien apparaissent les rapports des élites locales au savoir (notamment historique), à leur ville ainsi que leurs divisions internes. [eng] Abstract . The president to the parlement of Brittany Christophe-Paul de Robien (1698-1756) embodies the nobiliary success in France in 18 th century. However, this character who was one of the biggest French collector of his time and a dynamic scholar, saw some of his projects to fail. It was the case notably when he wanted to equip Rennes of an academie. The list of the failures of Robien leads not only to correct its image, but also to think about the cultural profile of Rennes. Through the failures of Robien appear the relations of the local elites to the knowledge, to their city but also their internal divisions.
