Competition and transformation in the learning economy - Illustrated by the Danish case

Abstract: [fre] Cet article développe le concept d'économie de la connaissance. Il défend l'idée que la phase actuelle de la concurrence capitaliste caractérisée par une accélération du changement place les individus et les firmes devant un besoin d'acquisition de nouvelles compétences ainsi qu'une contrainte d'oubli de connaissances anciennes. Les travailleurs peu qualifiés aux compétences rigides qui n'ont pas appris à apprendre sont les plus exposés. Sur la base de nouvelles données sur l'économie danoise, l'article met en évidence des mécanismes fondamentaux qui montrent en quoi la concurrence accrue conduit à la fois à une intensification de l'innovation et à la perte d'emplois non qualifiés. [eng] This paper develops the concept of the learning economy. It argues that the current phase of capitalist competition is characterised by accelerating change that confronts individuals and firms with the requirement to learn new skills and forget old ones. Workers with little training and rigid skills who have not learn to learn are especially exposed. The paper illustrates some of the most fundamental mechanism with new data from the Danish economy that demonstrate how intensified competition results in more innovation but also in a loss of jobs for the unskilled workers.
