Abstract: [eng] Universal banks and international financial integration . As a result of global finance, the reflection on universal banks (i.e. : those embracing all types of banking businesses) is currently acquiring a major importance. This article aims at analysing this banking model, taking into account potential efficiency gains and risks that could be incurred by a large diversification in banking activities. The relationship established between universal banks and the corporate world will also be analysed. Finally, the changes in the legal framework which could be required by these institutions' widespread success will be carefully studied. [fre] Effet de la globalisation financière, la réflexion sur la banque universelle est aujourd'hui des plus actuelles. Le propos de cet article est d'analyser ce modèle bancaire au regard des gains d'efficience et des risques qu'une large diversification des activités bancaires pourrait induire. Les liens que les banques universelles nouent avec les entreprises seront aussi examinés. Enfin, l'adaptation des réglementations que pourrait exiger l'essor de telles institutions sera aussi objet d'étude.
