Abstract: [fre] Aucune zone géographique ne peut se développer durablement et harmonieusement sans plusieurs opérateurs bancaires locaux de premier plan. En effet, ne pas disposer de véritables banques européennes mettrait, à terme, en péril le financement même de l’économie des 25 pays membres. Les auteurs analysent tout d’abord les enseignements du passé et en tirent la conclusion suivante : à l’exception des pays scandinaves, une consolidation bancaire presque exclusivement nationale et de timides incursions dans certains métiers et dans certains pays se sont constituées. Enfin, ils estiment que la recomposition du paysage bancaire européen peut et va prochainement avoir lieu et que la variable réglementaire va avoir un rôle éminent à jouer dans cette recomposition. . A geographical area can’t harmoniously develop on a long-term basis without several local major banks. The lack of really European banks would jeopardize the financing of the 25 European economies. First authors analyze lessons from the past and conclude that, except in Scandinavian countries, only almost solely national banking consolidations, which are small incursions into few jobs and few countries, take place. At last, they assume that the reorganization of the European banking system will soon occur. And the legal aspect will play an important part in this reorganization. .
