Abstract: [fre] L’euro fête son onzième anniversaire et semble capable de s’imposer comme une alternative au dollar. Pourtant, il apparaît que la zone euro n’est pas une zone monétaire optimale, au sens de la théorie économique, et que les performances économiques des pays membres de la zone divergent de plus en plus. De plus, au lieu d’accroître la coopération entre les pays membres, la zone euro apparaît comme une zone de comportements non coopératifs, tandis que l’Union européenne à 27 est le lieu d’une concurrence fiscale et sociale de plus en plus exacerbée. Quel est l’avenir de l’euro ? À quelles conditions la zone euro pourrait-elle se consolider ? . Classification JEL : E58, F33, F36. [eng] The Future of the Euro . The Euro, at eleven years old, seems to be an alternative to the dollar. But the Euro area is not an optimal currency area and the economic results of its member States are diverging. Instead of increasing economic cooperation between the member States, the Euro area is marked by non cooperative behaviours, while the European Union sees increasing fiscal and social competition.
