Evolution de l'agriculture et caractère familial des exploitations agricoles

Abstract: [fre] Après avoir rappelé que l'évolution du secteur agricole a été accompagnée d'un renforcement du caractère familial des exploitations, l'auteur propose une explication de ce phénomène. Celle-ci est fondée sur des hypothèses relatives au fonctionnement interne des exploitations s'adaptant aux pressions résultant du développement économique général. L'erreur des économistes de la fin du 19me siècle - marxistes et libéraux - annonçant la supériorité inéluctable des grandes fermes capitalistes, est principalement due aux difficultés du contrôle au jour le jour des décisions relatives à l'organisation de la production. Le véritable test des hypothèses proposées ici sera fourni par la réalisation ou non des prévisions qu'elles permettent. Il est en effet prévu que cette transformation structurelle ne pourrait être remise en cause que par trois facteurs : une réorientation radicale du développement économique, un progrès scientifique spectaculaire et imprévu donc peu probable dans les disciplines biologiques de la recherche agronomique, une extinction de l'offre de jeunes désirant devenir agriculteurs. [eng] The evolution of the agricultural sector and the « family » character of farms - The evolution of the agricultural sector has been concommittant with an accentuation of the « family » character of farms. An explanation of this phenomenon is suggested, it is based on assumptions concerning the internal mechanisms of family farms adapting to pressures resulting from general economic development. The mistake made by late 19th century economists both Marxist and liberal - predicting the inescapable superiority of capitalist farm is mainly due to their neglect of the difficulties to daily control the decisions taken to organize agricultural production. . A true test of these assumptions will be whether or not the predictions which they permit are realized or not. It is predicted that this structural transformation could be changed by three factors : a radical reorientation of economic development, a spectacular and unforeseen - consequently unlikely - scientific progress in the biological disciplines of agricultural research, a disparition of the supply of young people desiring to become farmers.
