Abstract: [eng] Sheep-raising techniques and landscape in the Causse Mejan area - South of the Massif Central, the Causse Mejan is a high isolated plateau, part of which is inside the Cévennes National Park. Its very small population survives mainly on sheep-raising (in 1975 there were 450 inhabitants for 330 square kilometres). Some twelve years ago the state made a considerable effort to provide amenities and do plant trees. . Together with ecological surveys socio-economic research was carried out, from 1974 to 1976, into the kinds of farming and of human occupation of the plateau (Brun et al. 1978). There we are particularly concerned with the nature and the distribution of the farms. . The analysis of the technical systems made up of men, flocks and land, helps to bring out the role of ecological factors. The present impact of the socio-economic environment and the after-effects of the development of plant-life are considered. Questions are asked in various biological and technical fields. [fre] Au sud du Massif Central, le Causse Méjan est un haut plateau isolé, inolus pour partie dans le Parc National des Cévennes. Une très faible population y vit essentiellement de d'élevage ovin (en 1975, 450 habitants sur 330 km2). L'Etat, il y a une douzaine d'années, a fortement favorisé les équipements publics et aussi les boisements. . A côté d'investigations écologiques, une recherche socio-économique a été menée, de 1974 à 1976, sur les formes de l'agriculture et de l'occupation humaine de ce plateau (BRUN et al., 1978). Il s'agit en particulier ici de la nature et de la répartition spatiaile des élevages. . L'analyse des systèmes techniques que constituent hommes, troupeaux et territoires contribue à éclairer le rôle des facteurs écologiques. Sont abordés l 'impact actuel de l'environnement socio-économique et les effets en retour de l'évolution du couvert végétal. Des questions dans différents domaines biologiques et techniques sont posées.
